Introduction of Android Automotive

Ford is set to launch a redesigned version of its largest SUV, the Expedition, which now features the innovative Digital Experience infotainment system. The 2025 Expedition marks the second Ford model to incorporate the Android Automotive-based system, following the new Explorer. This latest SUV showcases a dashboard and user interface that resembles a scaled-down version of the impressive panoramic display introduced in the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus.

Sleek Design and User-Friendly Interface

The new Expedition is being promoted through a spectacular drone light show in Texas. Visually, it appears to feature the left half of Lincoln’s expansive 48-inch pillar-to-pillar panoramic display, resulting in a 24-inch panel for the Expedition. The instrument cluster and navigation system in front of the driver remains consistent with what is found in the Lincoln, albeit without the additional widgets that occupy the right side of Lincoln’s extended screen.

The smaller center touchscreen below the display offers a range of functionalities, including access to the Google Play Store, compatibility with Apple CarPlay, and digital HVAC controls. The vehicle also supports both Google Assistant and Alexa voice assistants, though they cannot be used simultaneously. Additionally, some models come equipped with BlueCruise, which allows for hands-free driving capabilities.

Luxurious Features for Passengers

Pillar-to-pillar panoramic screens have become a trend among luxury vehicle manufacturers, marketed as infotainment hubs for front passengers. These screens enable activities like streaming videos and playing video games, enhancing the in-car experience.

Ford will offer two configurations of the Expedition: a standard-wheelbase version and an extended Max variant. The center row provides options for either bench seating or captain’s chairs. Additionally, the back of the first-row headrests are fitted with clamps to securely hold smartphones or tablets for the convenience of middle-row passengers. The Expedition can accommodate up to eight passengers when configured with bench seating.

Similarities with the Lincoln Navigator

All-new 2025 Ford Expedition First Look!

At first glance, the Expedition bears a resemblance to the newly redesigned Lincoln Navigator, featuring a split rear gate and a contemporary light bar at the front. Under the hood, it houses a 3.5-liter V6 engine, branded as EcoBoost for the Ford model. A notable addition to the lineup is the new Tremor trim, which boasts an output of up to 440 horsepower. This variant is equipped with a specially tuned suspension and unique trail modes designed for enhanced off-road performance.

Despite the various upgrades and features, Ford has opted not to include a hybrid powertrain option for the Expedition, mirroring the decision made for the Navigator.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the 2025 Expedition, Ford model is embracing advanced technology and luxurious features, positioning itself to compete in the growing SUV market. The combination of innovative infotainment capabilities, spacious interior options, and powerful performance is likely to attract both existing Ford customers and new buyers seeking a modern SUV experience. As the launch approaches, anticipation builds for the latest iteration of one of Ford’s flagship models.
