Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) announced that its that its Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 Weather Radar System has been officially certified by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for installation and use on Bombardier Learjet 40/45 aircraft. The technology, developed in partnership with Maga Aviation, an authorized Bombardier service center in Brazil, represents a significant step forward in aviation safety and operational efficiency for the region.
José Vinicius Martins, Honeywell’s Regional Sales Manager for South America, emphasized the radar’s impact, saying, “Gone are the days when pilots had to rely solely on eyesight to detect storms. The Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 enables pilots to identify weather disruptions along their route, detect turbulence up to 60 miles away, and scan altitudes up to 60,000 feet. This clear weather insight helps pilots navigate safer and smoother paths through challenging conditions.”
Advanced Technology Enhances Pilot Safety and Operational Efficiency
The Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 is a fully automated weather radar system designed to outperform older magnetron-based radar technologies by delivering enhanced reliability, accuracy, and durability. Its advanced hardware and software cater to both helicopter and business jet operators, offering a clearer picture of weather conditions. The system improves pilot navigation, reduces maintenance and operational costs, enhances passenger comfort, and proactively detects potential failures before they escalate into serious problems.
Edivaldo de Sousa Coelho, CEO of Maga Aviation, praised the partnership with Honeywell, stating, “Our longstanding collaboration allows us to introduce game-changing technologies like the Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 to the Brazilian market. As an authorized Bombardier service center, we are uniquely positioned to integrate this cutting-edge weather radar, significantly boosting safety and operational effectiveness for Learjet operators.”
Broad Compatibility and Ongoing Global Approvals
The Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 system is designed for retrofit on a wide variety of aircraft, enhancing weather detection capabilities for existing fleets. Compatible with aircraft models from manufacturers such as Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, and others, the radar system is already gaining traction worldwide. Notably, OMNI Air Taxi, South America’s largest operator of Leonardo AW139 helicopters, began integrating the technology last year to upgrade its fleet of 31 AW139 helicopters gradually.
While the Honeywell IntuVue RDR-7000 has achieved certification in Brazil, it is still awaiting validation from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which will further expand its global use.
This certification marks a milestone for Honeywell’s mission to advance aviation safety through innovative technology, ensuring pilots have the most accurate weather information to make informed decisions and protect passengers worldwide.
