LG Gram Fold Joins the Realm of Flexible-Screen Laptops | Mr. Business Magazine

This marks LG’s entry into the emerging category, similar to the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. The LG Gram Fold is a versatile touchscreen device that can transform into a sizable tablet or function as a full-fledged computer when unfolded. Users can enjoy a spacious 17-inch OLED display with a QXGA+ resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels when utilizing it purely as a display. Additionally, they have the option to pair it with the accompanying Bluetooth keyboard for a complete workstation experience. The device also supports stylus pens, making it suitable for creative tasks such as art, architecture, and calligraphy projects.

When folded, the top portion of the device becomes a 12-inch screen, while the lower section can function as a keyboard for typing. LG has conducted rigorous testing on this model and confirmed its durability, with the ability to withstand an impressive 30,000 folds without any damage to the display. While this might seem less than Samsung’s foldable Galaxy phones, which are tested around 200,000 times, it’s important to note that laptops and tablets typically endure fewer folds in daily use compared to smartphones.

Under the hood, the LG Gram Fold is powered by a 13th generation Intel Core i5 processor and boasts RAM that the company claims is 15 times faster than LPDDR5 5,200 memory. On the software front, this foldable laptop runs Windows 11 and offers a feature called Sync On Mobile, simplifying the process of transferring phone data to the device.

The LG Gram Fold is slated for release in October, initially in Korea. It comes with a price tag of 4.99 million won ($3,700), which, while not inexpensive, is considerably more affordable than HP’s $5,000 Spectre Fold. The first 200 customers to purchase the device at launch can avail it for 3.99 million won ($2,959). Furthermore, LG is sweetening the deal by offering a complimentary mouse and stylus as free gifts for early adopters, as these accessories will not be included with later purchases of the device.

Laptop or tablet? LG Display’s Foldable OLED offers the best of both worlds! | LG Gram Fold

Following in the footsteps of industry giants such as Lenovo, Asus, and most recently, HP, LG has unveiled its latest laptop innovation centered around a single expansive foldable display. Named the LG Gram Fold, this cutting-edge device is set to be available for online purchase in South Korea starting from October 4th, with international release details yet to be revealed.

Much like its predecessors in the foldable laptop category, the LG Gram Fold offers versatile usage orientations. Users seeking a traditional laptop experience can fold it upright and place a Bluetooth keyboard on the lower half, transforming the remaining screen into a 12-inch laptop with a 3:2 aspect ratio.

Alternatively, one can opt for a virtual keyboard displayed on the screen itself, eliminating the need for a physical keyboard. Flattening the laptop entirely allows for tablet-style usage, while the addition of a keyboard provides a computer experience with a spacious 17-inch screen. Additionally, a book mode is designed for partial folding, allowing users to hold the device in landscape mode.

The display itself boasts a resolution of 1920 x 2560 and a peak brightness of 500 nits. LG Display, in a separate press release celebrating the mass production of the panel, emphasizes the presence of a “specialized material” in the folding area to minimize creases. LG assures users that the Gram Fold is rated to withstand 30,000 folding cycles, a sufficient number considering laptops are typically folded and unfolded less frequently than smartphones in a day.
