Popular U.S. hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel is set to open a new location inside a Walmart store in Reno, Nevada, by the fall of 2025, according to a report by Verdict Food Service. The move is part of a broader push by the brand to expand its footprint across the country, particularly through strategic partnerships with high-traffic retail locations.
“This expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand,” said Shak Turner, Wienerschnitzel’s director of franchise expansion. Known for its signature chili cheese dogs and long-standing presence on the West Coast, the chain is now venturing into more accessible, convenience-focused environments as part of its growth strategy.
The Reno Walmart location will be one of several new in-store restaurants opening across the U.S. in 2025, showcasing Wienerschnitzel’s commitment to innovation and customer accessibility.
Multi-State Rollout to Include Five Additional Walmart Stores
The Reno outlet is one of six Wienerschnitzel locations set to open inside Walmart stores nationwide. The other new sites include locations in Alamogordo, New Mexico; Bakersfield, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Puyallup, Washington; and Tempe, Arizona. Each in-store restaurant will feature the full Wienerschnitzel menu, including fan favorites like the chili cheese dog and Tastee Freez soft-serve desserts.
By choosing Walmart as a partner, Wienerschnitzel is targeting high-volume retail locations that attract a wide range of customers. The company aims to enhance convenience for shoppers while expanding its brand reach beyond traditional standalone stores. These Walmart-based locations will maintain the franchise’s signature menu offerings, ensuring a consistent experience for both new and returning customers.
Currently, Wienerschnitzel operates 340 franchised locations across 13 states, with 50 additional units in various stages of development. The Walmart partnership is expected to accelerate the brand’s national presence and appeal to a broader demographic.
Tech-Driven Growth and Future Outlook
In addition to physical expansion, Wienerschnitzel is embracing digital innovation to modernize its customer experience. In March 2025, the company announced a partnership with Presto Phoenix, a provider of AI-powered ordering solutions, to introduce voice AI technology in its drive-through operations. This technology is designed to improve order accuracy and speed, while also enhancing customer convenience, reflecting a broader trend in the quick-service restaurant industry toward automation and efficiency.
With the combination of physical growth through retail partnerships and digital upgrades through AI integration, Wienerschnitzel is positioning itself for long-term success in a competitive fast-food landscape. The upcoming Reno Walmart location is expected to draw both loyal fans and new customers, helping solidify the brand’s place in modern retail food service.
As Wienerschnitzel continues to expand its footprint and invest in technological innovation, the company appears well-positioned to adapt to evolving consumer habits and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the quick-service restaurant space.
