The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launch event is just around the corner, but someone has already managed to obtain Google’s upcoming smartphones. In a couple of unboxing videos uploaded to YouTube by PBKreviews (as reported by 9to5Google), you can catch a glimpse of the packaging for both the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, as well as get a brief look at their appearances.
These videos don’t contribute significantly to the multitude of leaks we’ve already seen in the lead-up to the event. However, they do reveal that both phones come neatly packaged with a USB-C cable, a manual, and a Quick Switch adapter for transferring data from an old device to the Pixel 8. Additionally, we get a good view of a couple of color variants for the new devices. The Pixel 8 unboxing showcases a glossy gray color and a silver camera bar, while the Pixel 8 Pro video highlights the phone’s matte black rear and a sleek black camera bar, in line with previously leaked color options.
PBKReviews also displays the lock screen on both devices, indicating that both will feature the same in-display fingerprint sensor as their predecessors. Given Google’s history of leaks, it’s not surprising to see an unboxing video prior to the Pixel 8 launch event, especially considering the abundance of Pixel 8 leaks in recent weeks, some of which appear to have come from Google itself.
According to rumors, the Pixel 8 Pro, with its 6.7-inch display, is expected to feature an enhanced camera system, including a 50MP primary lens, a 48MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus, a 48MP camera with a 5x telephoto lens, and even a body temperature sensor. Meanwhile, the 6.17-inch Pixel 8 may sport a dual-camera setup consisting of a 50MP main lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus. Both phones are also likely to come with AI-enhanced features.
Google Pixel 8 Pro – Unboxing LEAKED Already
In addition to the Pixel 8 lineup, Google is poised to unveil the Pixel Watch 2 at its upcoming Made by Google event, scheduled for October 4th at 10 AM ET. Google has already released teaser videos featuring clips of the forthcoming Google Pixel 8 and Pixel Watch 2, confirming what to expect at the event.
Nevertheless, some questions remain, especially regarding the timing of the event, which occurs shortly after Apple’s iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 launch. Apple’s latest offerings have raised curiosity about Google’s response. Google has significantly improved its hardware offerings in recent years, with the Pixel Watch becoming one of the top smartwatches for Android, and the Pixel phones gaining recognition as some of the best overall smartphones.
Update:
In the lead-up to Wednesday’s launch, more details about the hardware have emerged, including a series of promotional videos for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
