Zoom plans to embed an AI Chatbot in its Video Conferences | Mr. Business Magazine

Zoom says it is ready to move forward with a ChatGPT-style AI chatbot to embed in its videoconferences and accompanying conversations, less than a month after experiencing public criticism over misunderstanding over how it trains its artificial intelligence technologies. Zoom hopes that its upgraded AI chatbot tool will increase user productivity, but it also runs the danger of rekindling debates about the kind of data that AI is trained on.

The New AI chatbot

According to a blog post from the firm, Zoom’s AI chatbot Companion is really ZoomIQ, which previously allowed users to summarize chat conversations and produce automated solutions to written chat inquiries. According to Zoom, customers will be able to interact with the AI Companion and ask it for assistance with a range of office chores starting with document searches to fast preparing for meetings and receiving aggregated summaries of previous sessions. Users will be able to communicate with the AI Companion during a meeting to submit support issues or look up answers to queries posed in real-time, according to Zoom. Basically, Zoom wants its partner to fulfil the function of a real, personal virtual assistant.

Incorporating New Developments

According to a corporate blog post, these conversational features won’t be available until the spring of 2024.

“With AI chatbot empowering you in Zoom, you can save time, improve the quality of your work, stay more connected with teammates no matter where or when they work, and receive insightful coaching that will help you level up skills like delivering a great presentation,” said Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom.

According to Zoom, their AI chatbot strategy combines its own large language model with Meta’s Llama 2, OpenAI, and Anthropic in addition to its own proprietary large language model. With this “federated approach to AI,” according to Zoom, the AI Companion should be able to quickly incorporate new developments from other models. Gizmodo contacted Zoom for comment regarding more information, but they did not react right away.

Preparations for the Future

The conversational chatbot tools are just one of many AI technologies Zoom is introducing in the coming months to try and increase user productivity on the platform. According to the business, its AI chatbot, which is already accessible to premium Zoom members, will allow users to review meeting highlights and ask specific questions about the topics covered in a meeting. Following the meeting, according to Zoom, the Companion will automatically summarize the conversation, divide it into “smart chapters,” and underline crucial details. Additionally, the companion will write meeting recaps that draw attention to crucial issues and possible next measures.
